BENEFICIARY:

A Place Called Home is a safe haven in South Central Los Angeles where underserved youth are empowered to take ownership of the quality and direction of their lives through programs in education, arts, and well-being; and are inspired to make a meaningful difference in their community and the world.

APCH was founded in 1993 at a time of high level gang violence in L.A., when real estate professional Debrah Constance dedicated herself to providing gang-affected youth in South Central with a safe place after school to get a snack, do homework, play with friends, and be with caring adults. Since then, APCH has served more than 15,000 youth and has grown to include classroom and office space, an athletic field, a commercial kitchen, fruit and vegetable garden, and dance and recording studios.
We are especially excited about the impact Jive Live and the NYR is having on the youth we serve. Two dozen of our members have begun training to participate in the NYR Children’s Run. Our music department has composed and recorded a training and victory song.  Our digital media department is creating a training video for the NYR.  We are all in! At APCH we want to inspire our members and their families to recognize the benefits of healthy diet and regular exercise. Jive Live’s NYR is supporting that goal by demonstrating that living an active and healthy lifestyle can be fun.

 

NEW YEARS RACE THEME SONG:

When JIVE LIVE approached A PLACE CALLED HOME with the idea of putting together a “Pump me up/Let’s start training” song for the New Year’s Race,  the APCH Music department got excited and went straight to work! After a little brainstorming, a dash of love and mad talent, Joaquin Pacheco and  the APCH members recorded a sample. Trevon Trapper laid out the vocals, Tradessa Willis and Reynardo Catajena dropped the beat. Using key words like motivation, encouragement and lyric lines like, “ I have a fire burning through my heart and soul,”  APCH members gave birth to HERE WE GO the New Year’s Race Power Song!

OFFICIAL CHARITIES:
